Hi, I’m Laura,

I came to Spain in 2005 to work in a summer camp and, as often happens with the best-laid plans, never left. Barcelona had captured my heart during a visit there while on Erasmus in the south of France so when I had the chance to live there, I jumped at it. After four formative years there, the winds of change blew me towards Madrid, where I spent another seven or so years, teaching and assuming an administrative role in a multinational language school. I didn’t really have any plans to leave the Spanish capital, but when I met my now-husband, who offered me the chance to go with him to Extremadura, I said “why not?”. We are now living in the countryside of Cáceres, with our cats, dogs and chickens, living a life that I could never have imagined back when I was a student visiting Barcelona for the first time.

My BA (hons) degree in French and Spanish from Stirling University, Scotland, opened the door to a year spent as an English Language Assistant in Tenerife during my studies, and then again in Santiago de Chile when I finished my degree. Once in Spain, I did a Master’s in Speech and Language Pathologies in Barcelona, which I’ve relied on ever since when teaching. Despite having a reasonable higher education coupled with a respectable variety of professional experience, I felt that a better understanding of psychology would be of benefit to me and my students. So, I finished a BSc. in Psychology in the Open University, and I have recently completed a Master’s in Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from a school in Barcelona.

Currently, I am putting all of my acquired experience and training to good use as a freelance English and Spanish teacher, working online with a wide variety of clients, from primary students to retired professionals and I couldn’t be happier.
